Greg MacPherson – November 18 at Habitat

GREG MACPHERSON BRINGS NEW ALBUM TO KELOWNA ON NOVEMBER 18 AT HABITAT
FIREBALL OUT OCTOBER 29, LISTEN TO IT TODAY

Greg MacPherson is set to release his sixth studio album, Fireball. Having recently debuted the official video for lead track “1995”, the Winnipeg blue-collar rock veteran is just finishing up an eastern Canadian tour before taking a short break and heading west. Out October 29 on Disintegration RecordsFireball, matches that same gritty, dynamic, and unpredictable vibe that MacPherson brings to every show.  Listen to Fireball in its entirety today courtesy of Exclaim! and see Greg MacPherson in Kelowna on November 18 at Habitat.

Recorded and mixed with award winning engineer Cam Loeppky the album explores the dangerous, heartbreaking, and romantic stories of people you can relate to. Think Lou Reed with less heroin and no jazz chords.  Where Mr. Invitation (2010) andDisintegration Blues (2011) were dark with as many ballads and soundscapes as rock songs, Fireball is all energy, passion, and style.

Respected as much for his work ethic as his music, MacPherson has released three critically acclaimed albums on the fiercely political label G7 Welcoming Committee and the Polaris Prize nominated Mr. Invitation on Smallman Records.  Fireball will be the first full-length released on Disintegration Records, a Winnipeg label owned and operated by MacPherson and Loeppky.

Having played every folk festival and punk rock basement in Canada over the last 20 years, MacPherson has been crossing Canada since early October in support of Fireball. Western Canadian tour dates commence November 14.

Weightless” releases Jan 28 via True North Records

60+ tour dates worldwide

HALIFAX – The newest signee to Canada’s longest running record label True North Records – guitarist and songwriter Matt Andersen – announces the release of“Weightless” on January 28, 2014. The album was recorded with Grammy-winning producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) at the Sonic Temple in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The much lauded songwriter, who hails from the blue collar community of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, is known for his electrifying live shows, and has been steadily building his fanbase in Canada and around the world. This year promises to be a banner year, with today’s announcement of over sixty tour dates worldwide, culminating in a Massey Hall show on March 1 in Toronto.

Dusty with some shimmer, the new album is infused with Andersen’s unparalleled dexterity on the guitar, cut with moments of songwriterly reflection. With Steve Berlin acting as grace note behind the boards, Andersen’s command of blues and soul are tempered in just the right places.

Spending eight weeks in the top ten on Earshot’s National Folk & Roots chart, The Fugitives’ summer EP Bigger Than Luckcreated a lot of anticipation for another full-length from the Vancouver indie-folk collective.

Everything Will Happen finds duo of Adrian Glynn and Brendan McLeod maintaining their expansive folk instrumentation while narrowing the songwriting focus.  The result is their fullest sound to date, with the help of few friends of course. “While it’s fun sitting around our living rooms writing horn lines with our mouths, it wouldn’t sound too great on a recording,” shrugs Glynn. “Thank God for talented friends.”

When not touring as musicians, Glynn and McLeod are active pursuing other disciplines.  McLeod is an award winning novelist and former Canadian SLAM poetry champion, while Glynn is a working actor who received rave reviews for his role in Chelsea Hotel, a play based on the songs and poems of Leonard Cohen.  Their collective band is similarly eclectic, boasting prominent former members like Mark Berube and CR Avery.  The current arrangement of rotating cast members includes violin-looping prodigy Hannah Epperson, multi-instrumentalist Steve Charles, and renowned actor Benjamin Elliot.

The Fugitives are currently taking Everything Will Happen on tour on a cross-Canada round trip from Coquitlam to Halifax and back home again to BC.

The Boonstock Music Festival is moving from Gibbons, AB to Penticton, BC in 2014.  Kelowna’s http://centerofgravity.ca/ will be moving dates to earlier in teh summer, so this becomes the big festival for the Okanagan on the long weekend in August.  Over the last two years, Bookstock has attracted a lot of Acts such as Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, Korn, Billy Talent, Puddle of Mudd, Volbeat, Buckcherry, Sublime with Rome, Drop Kick Murphy’s, Sebastian Bach, and Everlast.  Don’t forget, The Pemberton Music Festival returns in 2014 from July 18-20.  Start saving your music festival money!

Nixed Alberta Boonstock hits Skaha

Organizers of the Boonstock Music Festival recently announced  they had found a new location and a new date for their 10th anniversary.

Penticton was deemed an appropriate choice because of its hot weather, breathtaking scenery and a site that has water nearby.

Penticton CEO Annette Antoniak said she only learned of the decision to bring the festival here on Monday.

“The promoter and Travis Kruger from the Penticton Indian Band met with the mayor and I, and it was the first time we were given any details,” she said. “It is all very new to us, and we were told it is being held on First Nations land above Skaha Meadows Golf Course.”

Antoniak said they were further informed the promoter would be meeting with the RCMP superintendent today.

The festival is set to take place Aug. 1-3, 2014.

The move comes after officials in Sturgeon County, Alberta voted to put an end to the festival in September.

Their decision was based on a number of complaints from area residents, along with police and health officials, over the long-running and popular festival.

Colin Kobza, president of the Boonstock Entertainment and Arts Society, admits there were problems with the location. It was a small parcel of land with problems with exiting and entering, as well as security and crime, he said.

“I think we needed more land, which we now have,” he said. “We love this region and feel it has a lot to offer, and we feel we can do a lot for the community as well.”

Further information on ticketing and reasons for the move are on their website, at http://www.boonstock.ca.
