Powerful vocals combined with driving afrocuban percussion and brassy mambos, introducing their son-inspired take on some of salsa’s hardest grooves.

Kelowna Folk Club House Concert this Sunday!

Dan Possumato (button accordion, melodeon) and Jamie O’Brien (vocals, guitar) will perform in Kelowna this Sunday night, Sep. 28 at #2 3105 Thacker Drive, West Kelowna. Celtic aficionados don’t miss an opportunity to see this first class duo who are seldom tour in our part of the world. This will be a rare treat.

Facebook Event

Dan Possumato is an American from Pittsburgh who has been playing traditional Irish music since the 1980’s having learned to play during his 15 year stay in Europe. He travels to the west of Ireland on a regular basis where he collects many esoteric tunes for his repertoire. As he was born on St Patrick’s Day it seems he was destined for this career. Dan plays the old “push and draw” style and he plays both the two row button accordion and the rapidly disappearing one row Irish Melodeon.

Growing up in a London-Irish family, Jamie O’Brien was always surrounded by music, both the songs of Ireland and songs from the British music hall at hooleys (gatherings) most Saturday nights. He began performing as a teenager as a guitarist and singer, delving into a variety of styles but always returning to his Irish roots. Since arriving in America in 1990 he has performed regularly both as a solo act and with several bands. He has appeared with such musicians as Aoife Clancy, Kieran O’Hare and fiddler Jim Egan. He and Dan have worked together since they first met in 2000. And perform frequently throughout the US and Europe.

Making their way across Canada for a second time supporting their latest album, Kitchen Knife, The Devin Cuddy band is all set to make stops from Vancouver to Halifax beginning on October 3. “It’s very important to us to bring this show to the doorsteps of Canadians everywhere”, says Devin Cuddy. “So come on out”. To catch a glimpse of what to expect from the blues and country four piece, you can watch their performance of album cut “Home”, recorded live with the students at The Regent Park School Of Music.

Devin Cuddy has always made music his way, and some might argue, the hard way. As the son of Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy, country rock has been the soundtrack to Devin’s entire life — he was born the same week Blue Rodeo began recording its 1987 debut album, Outskirts. But from the moment Devin was drawn to playing music, he was determined to get as close as possible to the sources of all the sounds he loved, whether they were made by rock and roll’s founding fathers, the Grand Ole Opry’s honky-tonk heroes, or Jelly Roll Morton and the kings of jazz. Thus far, that path has already led to a Juno Nomination for Roots / Traditional Album of the Year for his first record, Vol 1.

Produced by Greg Keelor (Blue Rodeo) at his Lost Cause home studio, with the help of Nichol Robertson on guitar,Zack Sutton on drums, and Devon Richardson on bass, The Devin Cuddy Band went in to studio with a different approach than before. “I brought all the new tunes to the studio, so the band hadn’t played most of them yet,” says Cuddy. “Each song was arranged as we heard it, very natural approach. We took more of a studio approach as opposed to the ‘live off the floor’ feel we have on the first record. You’ll hear more instruments, bigger sounds and a more realised sense of song.”
