Making their mark on the airwaves with two weeks at #1 on CBC Radio 3’s R330 Chart, Winnipeg’s Federal Lights will bring their prairie-pop sound on a string of Western Canadian tour dates to support their upcoming album We Were Found In The Fog. Following a hometown performance in Winnipeg the band will take off for Germany to begin their first European tour.
We Were Found In The Fog sees the band at its sharpest. The hooks are more refined, the lyrics more precise, and Jean-Guy Roy’s timeless, resonant voice is as clear as a bright blue Prairie sky. Recorded in the heart of a cold Winnipeg winter, the album marks Roy’s second time in studio with Engineer Cam Loeppky (Weakerthans, Greg MacPherson, Cannon Bros.) and with the help of producer Rusty Matyas (Imaginary Cities), this time around things are more focused and more efficient. “I get extreme anxiety in the studio and those two gents were able to make it such a relaxed situation, with the help of a moderate amount of Irish Whisky of course.”
Federal Lights is a band born out of necessity. Beginning in 2010 as a solo experiment for Roy and a chance to explore new sounds it quickly became a vital bridge back into making music with the release ofCarbon in 2011. Joined by bassist Rob Mitchell (The Attics), drummer Chris Gaudry (The Shouting Ground, The Mission Light), and Roy’s wife, keyboardist/vocalist Jodi Roy, what started as one man in a cold storage room is now a whole theatre of indie rock anthems.
