YES NICE! bio:
Being tongue and cheek about apocalyptic writing is one thing, but capturing audiences from an almost spiritual harmonic level is another thing entirely. Yes Nice is a group that could only be created by childhood friends Scott Mckellar and Nathaniel Wong.

I’m back in town after two weeks in Newfoundland, and there’s more and more options for live music in Kelowna all the time.  After COG and Rock the Peach, there are still lots of venues out there supporting live music!

Shop. Eat. Magic – look out for roaming magician, Ali K. Zam. Try out Park ‘n’ Play children’s activities. Hug a mascot. Grab a free Froster sample from the Mac’s Street Team. Take in some street chalk art. Maybe make some. Contemplate the nature and origins of the universe. Find the life-size T-Rex dinosaur. Kick it by the monster truck. Ice cream. Talk to that person you always see but never talk to. Have an iced coffee. Dance. Chair dance. Line dance. Mostly have fun, block-loads of it.

rio by night started as the solo project of front-woman, Britt MacLeod in the winter of 2010. A writer/vocalist with a bundle of songs she had written on her ukulele.

After a few months of going it alone, MacLeod teamed up with classically-trained cellist, Alex Hauka. The brightness of the ukulele, and the deep richness of the cello, with MacLeod’s smoky vocals made for a unique fusion.

In summer 2011, rio by night began recording a 6-song self-titled EP (to be released in May) with friend/producer, Andrew Rasmussen (Hey Ocean!, Dave Phillips). After the inaugural record was already in the works, Ben Whipple and Mike Lauder were enlisted to fill out the line-up with bass and drums respectively.

Now a collaborative project, rio by night has already begun working on their first full-length album and will hit the road for a tour of Western Canada summer 2012.
