Upcoming live shows around Kelowna

Hey,

Keep an eye out for upcoming shows at the Well at UBC-O. They will be posted here:

Also, I recently made this post on the Power 104 Forums.

So there’s been 3-4 shows at the Habitat on Leon. Did anyone go? What is the venue like? Capacity, acoustics, ventalation? Because of my music blog I’m getting bands from Calgary and Vancouver emailing me wanting to play Kelowna as they go on tour, but they can’t get a hold of venues, they can’t get a hold of promoters and they feel like Kelowna has a thing against small touring bands trying to get a gig in this town. I see where they’re coming from, but it has to change if Kelowna is going to be a vibrant live music city. It’s great that local talent can play regular weekly shows at Rose’s, Blue Gator, Doc’s, Grateful Fed, Laughing Moon, Minstrel Gallery, O’Flanigan’s, or Higher Ground. However, how can a touring band get a gig at these places and make sure that they will get well publicized? eVent magazine and Scorpion Entertainment are doing a good job, but I know there’s more out there. Did anyone know the Organ (a band from vancouver) were suppose to play OKM Hall on Thursday but it was cancelled?

The Duotone Arts Festival did one of the best jobs I’ve seen for promotion and execution of a great live music and arts event.

Hey there,I was in fact the person trying to organize The Organ show, cancelled due to numerous factors. I am now trying to put it together for late October. I’ve been trying to contact The Habitat for rental info, but they apparently don’t respond to emails. You actually have to go down to the venue to fill out an application, or download it from their website and fax it in. As far as The Organ goes, I’m working on it!!!I’m also up for trying to put on more shows in Kelowna, so email me: a_p_productions@yahoo.com

Hey LanerThanks for having this great resource up on the web. As someone who is trying to book a VERY good band in late October, I can tell you that contact info for any of these places is scarce on the web!!! The OUBC site says the University is now closed, it says nothing about the Well Pub, but I see from your blog they have shows booked! If you could help me out by giving me at least a phone number or two of people who books shows in Kelowna, we want to bring you one of Canada’s finest acts! (The Warehouse is also closed from what I’ve been told)Please email me at:gtkproductions@hotmail.comTHANKSJo Everett

the habitat IS the old warehouse, actually. they normally host the same type of band , i think kids would get pissed off if they veered off into something else. but who knows. the organ is a pretty sweet band , i guess. i heard one of their demos somewhere.

oh , and re: ventilation? hahaaaa. at the underoath show it was insanely hot. the window were all fogged up and everyone was moshing and people were hanging from the ceiling (beams/pipes) acoustics.. well , it’s really small. and .. yeah. you should go check out moneen with the archer and the eagle and kiros. or the bleedingalarm, etc. on the 7th.
