Newfoundland bands heading West, and playing Kelowna!

In recent months, more Newfoundland bands have been heading out west on National tours, and some of them have been stopping in Kelowna!  Hey Rosetta have been here a few times now (most recently in Sept. 2010).  Matthew Hornell and The Diamond Minds played the Minstrel Cafe in November, and coming up on March 3rd, The Mountains and the Trees will be opening for Treelines on their western Canadaian Tour.  The Mountains & The Trees are/is Jon Janes. He plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, bells, drums, and whistles, hums, and sings. He also played throughtout Europe with Dan Mangan last year!  Come check out the show!

Newfoundland’s Damhnait Doyle (formerly of Shaye) has a new band – The Heartbroken, and will be playing the Minstrel Cafe on Feb. 21st.

If a 10-piece Ska band is more your thing, check out the Idlers.  This band from St. John’s played BC last June, and will be in Golden on March 11th.

Idlers are full tilt-energy. Part dance, part world music and truly indie, Idlers have defined their presence on stage and in the studio through overflowing energy and social-consciousness. Idlers show is a genre-bending musical carnival, moving from town to town, bringing joy to crowds’ feet.

So if you’re not going to Golden to see the Idlers on Mach 11th, then that same night you can catch Great Big Sea at the Kelowna Community Theatre.  There last show in Kelowna was at Prospera Place in 2002, and that was nearly a sell-out.  They are doing smaller theatre venues on this tour, after playing the SOEC in Penticton last time around.
