Friday – Kelowna Folk Club presents Belle Plaine and Blake Berglund

Prairie sweethearts, co-writers and crib opponents Belle Plaine and Blake Berglund are hitting the road again from BC to SK in late November into early December. Belle and Blake have merged the distinct styles that define their careers. She’s a modern day folk singer with a touch of 1940s swing. He’s a twangy storyteller who’s influenced by the outlaws of country music. Think Johnny and June, with a touch of Joni and The Band. Their live show is a classic double-bill with a twist: Belle and Blake will each perform a set of their own material, and will come together to close the night with a selection of duets including “Town to Town” and “Saskatchewan” from their 2015 vinyl release, Kris Kristofferson’s “Chase The Feeling”, Ian & Sylvia’s “Summer Wages” and the crowd favourite “Mercury Blues” which was originally released in 1952 by K.C. Douglas. They will be joined by guitarist, Bryce Lewis.

“Belle Plaine and Blake Berglund are the epitome of sincerity. Unarguably talented in their own right, together, the chemistry is truly remarkable.” Del Barber

$20 tickets are available at ABC Hobby in Kelowna, Mad Hatter Bookstore in West Kelowna or online at kelownafolkclub.ca.

Bloody Diamonds live at Milkcrate Records tonight

Bloody Diamonds play rock n’ roll. Soulful, powerful vocals and dirty riffs make their hard-hitting live show a bewitching act to behold. Somewhere between Black Sabbath, Jack White and Patti Smith lays this Toronto-based four-piece, with a vocalist who is one minute soft and sweet – then foaming at the mouth. With years of heavy touring under their belt, the band is set to tour across Canada this fall with their newly released EP ‘Tough Love’ – a raw and intoxicating five-track record.

“The real story with Bloody Diamonds, hands down, is lead singer Sara Elizabeth. There are very few people with pipes that come close to her controlled-yet-wild dynamic.” – NOW Magazine

“I was particularly impressed by the moody and introspective vibe from Bloody Diamonds, in particular the raw and guttural energy from lead vocalist Sara Elizabeth.” – Lithium Magazine
