Ticket Giveaway: We are the City with Aidan Knight

I have a pair of tickets for the first person to email me!

This will be a great show at the Rotary Centre, Friday, May 7th.  Kelowna’s We Are The City recently took home the grand prize of $150,000 towards career development for winning 100.5 The Peak FM’s BC competition, the Peak Performance Project, over 450 other BC artists.

I caught Aidan Knight’s last show in Kelowna opening for Dan Mangan and it was fantastic.

FATHEAD – Saturday night @ The Rotary Centre

Date: May 8th, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Price: $30 per adult / $10 per student

Local Artist Pre-show: BobBB & Friends at 6:30 p.m.

It’s been a long but steady climb since FATHEAD’s debut CD in 1995, and the band has been tearing it up on the North American festival circuit ever since, making the group one of the country’s top roots acts.

Signed to the world renowned Electro-fi Records’ imprint, their latest release “Building Full of Blues” garnered them a second coveted Juno Award in 2008 for “Blues Recording Of The Year”. That they have been described as a ‘Blues Tour De Force’ comes as no surprise.

Georgia-raised lead singer John Mays has had a storied career that began in the Southern gospel tradition, crossing over into Doo-Wop, R&B and Blues, not to mention a stint with the Godfather Of Soul, James Brown.

Al Lerman (harp and saxophone) hooked up with the band’s leader some years later. Since that time, FATHEAD’s core has remained constant, offering ace musicianship, soul stirring harmonies and outstanding live performances.

Bassist Omar Tunnoch has also produced an impressive body of work that has enjoyed time on the US, European and Canadian music charts. Guitar ace Teddy Leonard (who left the band in 2006) is back and better than ever, along with iconic drummer Bucky Berger. Elements of funk, soul, and R&B are fused into the group’s strong blues backbone, creating a fresh sound that is immediately recognizable as their own.

Tickets can be purchased online through Select Your Tickets, by visiting the RCA Box Office, or by calling (250) 717-5304. For more information on FATHEAD visit www.fathead.biz.

The NEW Kelowna live music Blog

So I’m just about finished the site migration.  There should be proper redirects in place for all the old blog posts dating back to march 2005.  Hopefully there is no lost data.  All the links on the right-hand side have been updated, except my Calendar of Events (which I have to get updated) – sorry for the inconvenience.

I should be able to do lots of cool stuff with this new WordPress blog format.

The considerable success of the band’s freshman release “Hang This On Your Wall” (2007), coupled with national recognition on the competitive stage and enthusiastic reviews in numerous credible industry sources, with a resounding sense of appreciation for the support they’ve received over the years. The newest release “Talker” (2009) tells the stories of this band in vivid musical detail.
