Leah West CD Release Party on Wednesday, November 7th at the Minstrel Café

Kelowna Musical Diva “Speechless” About Her New Album

(Kelowna, B.C., Canada) – When it comes to hard-working local independent songwriters, Leah West has earned her stripes.  West released her debut album “Beyond Words” in 2009 to critical acclaim. It was nominated for an astounding 3 awards, including “Songwriter of the Year”, “Single of the Year”, and “Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year”. She also took home the coveted 2011 BCIMA “People’s Choice Award”. Songs from that album are currently averaging over 2 million airplays a month! An incredible statistic for an independent artist who does all her own business, marketing and promotion. Her song “Spring” was recently featured on “Live with Kelly Ripa!”, a morning television program watched globally by over 5 million viewers a day. Leah’s songs have also been party to several television shows. She hopes to find even more success with her upcoming release of “Speechless”.

Both albums were produced by Marty Rifkin, who has worked with Bruce Springsteen, Jewel, Ryan Adams, Tom Petty, Elton John, and Leanne Rimes. Leah is very excited about the launch of her new album “Speechless” and feels that she is really coming into her own style both vocally and when writing and composing. Some of the songs on the new album are fast becoming very popular with several companies that license her work for television and film. It holds great promise for this artist.

Amelia Curran
From the fathoms, the dark solitary deeps, comes Amelia Curran’s Spectators, a new album set for release on October 2, 2012 on Six Shooter Records. A meditation on frailty, restlessness, time and its finitudes, Spectators is both storm and harbour.
The Juno winning artist has charted a course through longing and loss with lyrics that face life’s beauties and terrors with disconsolate urgency. With Spectators, Curran returns to the scene with ten tracks that yet raise the bar on her signature lyricism, but push beyond the folk boundaries that have defined her previous releases.
Produced by John Critchley, Spectators brings surprises, including brass, strings, piano, and rumbling percussion. “What Will You Be Building,” a downtrodden Dixieland dirge, distills existence into one essential question. “The Modern Man” is another standout track – Curran’s stark vision stands sharply against a dark, tense, shivering backdrop. Even, or perhaps especially, the love songs, cut through the bone. In particular, the earthquake heartache of “San Andreas Fault,” is as graceful as it is devastating.
The opening track, “Years,” strides forward with a dynamic deliberation undercut by repeated speculation about all the trouble’s worth. Ever cautious in her optimism, “Years” introduces the record’s measured truths in fine fashion.
Guest musicians and arrangers are a collection of Toronto and St. John’s notables, including The Once, Todor Kobakov, Bryden Baird, Selina Martin, Oh Susanna, and Martin Tielli.  Six Shooter Records is proud to release Spectators on October 2, 2012.Joe Nolan
In December of 2010, Joe Nolan traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to record his third album “Goodbye Cinderella”. The album was produced by award-winning producer Colin Linden and featured some of Nashville’s most storied players including Spooner Oldham (Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin and Neil Young) on keyboards, Charlie McCoy (Bob Dylan, Elvis, Simon & Garfunkel) on harmonica, Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, John Mellencamp) on acoustic bass, Chris Donahue (Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant) on electric bass, Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris, Tony Joe White, Delbert McClinton) on drums, along with producer Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Lucinda Williams) on electric guitars and vocals. The record was brilliantly recorded by John Whynot (Blue Rodeo, Loreena McKennitt) who also contributed keyboards on a few songs. The recording features 10 new Joe Nolan compositions and shows a quantum leap in maturity and confidence. Joe’s beautiful combination of sweet, sad lyrics and haunting vocals come from a deep well that shows a young man’s heart and an old man’s soul. Protest songs, love songs, songs with questions and songs with answers created a collection that has the listener wanting more. His live performances are mesmerizing and the audience connects to Joe’s soft, honest and heart-felt delivery. Praise for “Goodbye Cinderella” came from many directions. The reviews are stellar, the recording was quickly picked up for distribution in Europe with a commitment for Joe to embark on his first European tour in the spring of 2012, and more recently, Joe was nominated in the Best New/Emerging Artist category at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Joe has been performing non-stop over the past few years building an ever growing fan base. He has been sharing stages with established artists that include Todd Snider, Colin Linden, Sam Baker, Gurf Morlix, Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women, Mathew Barber, Oh Susanna and the legendary Peter Asher.

Joe is a previous winner of the CBC Radio Galaxy Rising Star Award.
