The Dudes – Sept. 24th at the Habitat

Blood Guts Bruises Cuts may not be for the faint of heart, but as the new album title by The Dudes, ears everywhere should take notice and tune in. Out on June 2nd via LOADmusic/EMI, Blood Guts Bruises Cuts stays true to the rock and roll soul sound that has propelled The Dudes out of the Calgary independent music scene and into the national spotlight.

“The Dudes – now strikingly tight showmen with a full arsenal of future-classic rock songs up their sleeves – have set their eyes on moving beyond the local stage…a rock band capable of taking on the world at large.” – FFWD Weekly

Sharing tour stages with the likes of Pride Tiger, Two Hours Traffic and Ladyhawk, The Dudes also earned marquee status at events including JunoFest, Sled Island, and V-Fest. They’ve been voted Calgary’s favourite band of 2006, 2007, and 2008 by FFWD readers, landed prominent spots in film (‘Freezer Burn’ starring Crispin Glover and Tom Green), television (‘Heartland’, ‘House Party’), and commercial use (Rogers mp3 phone ad).

Showing enormous artistic growth, Blood Guts Bruises Cuts, produced by Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, State of Shock) and mixed by Mike Fraser (Franz Ferdinand, AC/DC), introduces the perfect emotional blend of Al Green and Flaming Lips – soul music and early 1990’s distortion. We just call it awesome.

“With all pistons firing, this is a leaner, meaner Dudes.” – Beat Route Magazine

RAH RAH – THEY ARE YOUR NEW FAVOURITE BAND
* AND THEY ARE TOURING! *

Since making their out-of-town debut at Pop! Montreal in 2006, the buzz surrounding Rah Rah has been growing steadily. They were voted “Best Band in Regina” by a 2007 Prairie Dog’s Reader’s Poll, have played festivals across Canada, and released their first full-length album ‘Going Steady’ via Young Soul Records (Library Voices, Polymaths, National Frost) that quickly became a What’s Hot pick with itunes.

“Very accomplished despite their youth, Rah Rah plays immense, poetic rock tunes…” – Montreal Gazette

Now set to play dates across the country, this tour follows a hugely successful back-and-forth trip across Canada where Rah Rah played their hearts out at 34 back-to-back shows with a two week stop in Montreal to record tracks for their upcoming album with Kees Dekker of Plants and Animals fame. The now eight-piece features members of Sylvie, Geronimo, and the late Despistado. Since its release ‘Going Steady’ has received consistent air play on CBC Radio 3 (reaching #5 on the R3-30) and has charted on campus radio stations and in Exclaim! magazine.

“There’s just something compelling about this band, whether it’s Burns’s earnest delivery (shades of a baritone Neil Young), the catchy tunes underpinned by rock solid musicianship, or the fact that one of their songs calls for a sound effect created by chewing candy into the microphone.” – ChartAttack

Matthew Barber – Sept. 27th at teh Habitat

Matthew Barber is an acclaimed singer-songwriter hailing from Toronto, Canada. A fixture on the Canadian music scene over the last five years, Barber has released three records and an e.p. and toured extensively across Canada and abroad, making inroads into Europe, Australia and now the United States. His sound is largely influenced by the tradition of folk-rock and country singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Hank Williams, Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen, but also by years of immersion in contemporary indie-rock as a college radio d.j. The one constant in Barber’s songwriting is his knack for a memorable hook (perhaps owing to his enduring love of the Beatles), and in this way he has carved out a unique sound that often defies categorization.
