Julie Doiron Friday NIght

Fresh off the announcement that Julie Doiron’s album “I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day” was the #1 Canadian Campus Radio album of 2009, the Sackville, NB singer/songwriter is playing a free show live on the web.  The show will be live at www.streamingcafe.net January 22nd at 8pm Pacific Standard Time.
A last minute change in the tour schedule, this show will appeal to audiences across Canada and beyond. Julie Doiron has been touring Canada, Europe and the States of late and is currently making the cold tour trek from Winnipeg to Vancouver. Her tour will continue to the southern States and then Japan and China.
Recent praise for Julie Doiron’s lastest album:
“It’s a rare and amazing thing when an indie musician finds ways to keep chugging along on her own steam for years and then releases an album that brings together in the most powerful way everything she’s learned.” Carla Gillis, Now Magazine
“Hands down, this is Doiron’s most engaging work since 1999’s Julie Doiron And The Wooden Stars.” Scott Bryson, Chart
“Helmed once again by Eric’s Trip main man Rick White, I Can Wonder is easily Doiron’s most jubilant effort to date –one that makes you feel you’re discovering her all over again.” Francois Marchand, Canwest News Service
Advance tickets are available at Streaming Cafe (Kelowna, BC 596 Leon Ave) at $10 each for those who want to attend the show in person. The show will be free to watch online.

I know there’s a lot of people in Kelowna who travel down to George, Washington during the US Memorial Day weekend to check out the Sasquatch Festival.

Bands who played Coachella last year and who have also played the Sasquatch Festival in the past 2 years…

So which bands from the 2010 Coachella festival may play Sasquatch??  Here’s my thoughts.

Vampire Weekend

Grizzly Bear (2 years in a row)
Faith No More
MGMT
The Dead Weather

“Martyn Joseph is a performer like no other. Shades of Springsteen, Knopfler, and Dave Matthews there may be, but he stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live musical experience of their lives.” (www.martynjoseph.com)

Joseph is a Welsh singer-songwriter with a 25 year career. He has had five Top 50 UK chart positions, and has toured with Suzanne Vega, Joan Armatrading, Clannad, and Celine Dion. He won the 2004 BBC Welsh Music Award for Best Male Artist and has numerous humanitarian plaudits and awards to his credit.

His strength lies in being able to use a lyrical narrative style to sing about anything from social injustice to the intricacies of love. He seems to be able to pin down the feelings that we all have in songs that we can all relate to.

This man with his guitar is able to create songs with “outstanding lyrical intelligence.” (BBC’s Bob Harris). As Martyn himself says, “It’s the song that can soothe, explain, or even in a small way save us.”
