Kalle Mattson Announce Western Canadian Tour Dates With Sunparlour Players

Ottawa’s Kalle Mattson bring acclaimed 2012 release “Lives in Between” back on the road following viral success of “Water Falls” video, continue to prepare 2013 release produced by The Wooden Sky’s Gavin Gardiner.

In 2012, Kalle Mattson released an EP titled “Lives in Between” on Winnipeg’s Parliament of Trees, embarked on a tour of Eastern Canada, released a video for their song “Water Falls” which quickly went viral, and started recording their third LP with The Wooden Sky’s Gavin Gardiner producing. The five song “Lives in Between” EP  was reviewed on Guardian UK, American Songwriter, and Exclaim saying that the EP “…demonstrates what makes Kalle Mattson’s music so engrossing: slack guitar, pop (rock)-and-lock pacing and devil-may-care vocals.”

To promote the EP, the band enlisted the help of high school friend Kevin Parry, who previously made the very successful “Thick as Thieves” video for the band, to create a video for their first single “Water Falls”. “In “Water Falls”, the viewer is sling shot around San Francisco using stop-motion animation on a very large scale in a project coined “Hypno SF”. The video received one hundred thousand views in its first week after a debut on NPR’s All Songs Considered, was named one of the top 10 alternative music videos by Vimeo, and received attention from the likes of The Atlantic, CBS News, Wired, CBC Radio 3, AOL’s Spinner, and had The Huffington Post asking “Is this the coolest music video of 2012?”

Krief – Thursday Sept 13th @ Streaming Cafe

Patrick Krief, guitarist for The Dears will be at the Streaming Cafe this Thursday!
Krief – THURSDAY, SEPT. 13th
Guitarist for The Dears, Patrick Krief made his frontman mark with his solo project Black Diamond Bay. The April 2012 release of Hundred Thousand Pieces (Pirates Blend), presented the Montrealer at his finest, with beautifully heartbreaking, cinematic arrangements, and soulful lyrics and songwriting. Though Krief performed almost everything himself during the recording of the album (drums, piano, keys, bass, guitar, percussion, and vocals), he takes to the stage with a full band during his live shows, kicking his ornately instrumental music up a notch, creating a fuller, rocking sound, jam‐packed with soul. Have a look at Krief’s online concert series for a little taste of his music live off the floor.
Tickets: $12 available @ Streaming Cafe
Time: 8pm

The Jezabels @ Habitat – September 11th

The Jezabels are a four-piece musical group from Sydney. They formed after meeting at the University of Sydney. Their music has been described as a blend of Alternative Rock, indie rock, and disco pop. The Jezabels themselves, somewhat jocularly, describe their genre to be “intensindie”.

The band’s members are Hayley Mary (vocals), Heather Shannon (piano/keyboard), Nik Kaloper (drums) and Samuel Lockwood (guitar). Mary and Shannon first began playing together in Byron Bay, New South Wales, before moving to Sydney to attend university, where they met Kaloper and Lockwood, and formed the band.

As of 2011 they have released three EPs and one full-length album, all with producer and engineer Lachlan Mitchell.

The Jezabels have played the Australian festivals Big Day Out, Falls Festival, Pyramid Rock, Festival of the Sun, Playground Weekender, Come Together, Peats Ridge Festival, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival and Soundwave. They are on the line-up to play Groovin’ the Moo festival 2011 and Splendour in the Grass festival 2011.

The Jezabels supported Canada’s Hey Rosetta! and Tegan & Sara on their Australian tours. In June 2010, they toured with Katie Noonan and The Captains, and have also supported Regurgitator,Bluejuice, Dukes of Windsor, Van She, Sparkadia, Cassette Kids, and Damn Arms.
