The February March has taken another big step forward with their new album “City of Glass”. With financial backing from the Swiss label B&C Entertainment, the Vancouver four-piece, previously named “Formula” recorded the album in February and March 2006 with producer Mark Henning. “City of Glass” is a collection of 11 songs ranging from the gritty, Springsteen-esque Street Signs, to the organ-drenched epic Something Easy.
The album is the product of six months of hard work holed up in an attic in the Vancouver suburbs where the band wrote 50 songs, only selecting the best for recording. With a penchant for brilliant melodies and dense sonic tapestry, the February Marchs unerring pop sensibility draws comparisons to bands such as Snow Patrol, Bruce Springsteen, The Killers, and Coldplay.
I think Prospera may have changed there policy about incoming shows. I think the concert promoters are requiring the venues to have state-of-the-art Technolgy, instead of the artists bringing 10 semi-trucks of gear. Makes sense. Touring is getting more expensive and artists want to fly in and fly out of a city. That means the venue needs to have all their own sound and lighting equipment.
2006 saw Motley Crue, Our lady peace in the spring. Barenaked Ladies and Billy Talent coming up in the next 5 months. Not much else.
Gone are the days when in the span of a few short months you could see a diverse group of artists like….
Julio Iglesias – November 14, 2002
Blue Rodeo – November 7, 2002
Great Big Sea – September 21, 2002
Supertramp – September 18, 2002
Kenny Rogers – September 5, 2002
Diamond Rio – September 5, 2002
Elton John – August 28, 2002 ~ SOLD OUT ~
Swollen Members – August 17, 2002
Finger Eleven & The Full Nine – August 17, 2002

Sum 41 – May 6, 2002
Goldfinger – May 6, 2002
Dwight Yoakam – May 2, 2002

Never Would Have Guessed We Were All Blessed (Independent)
Poking its head through ribbons of pink, orange, and red on the cover of Conrad’s second album is a cute little mouse in a blue hat. Like the almost-hidden rodent, the level of songwriting on Never Would Have Guessed We Were All Blessed is almost possible to overlook. But underneath Larry Lechner’s easy delivery and the rest of the band’s cool, understated textures, there are essentially stealth melodies—tunes that get their hooks in without the listener even realizing it and then don’t let go. One exception is “Air Strike”, a song as immediately gorgeous as anything from Rogue Wave or the Shins, or any of the new wave of pop groups mining similar Brian Wilson/Ray Davies territory. Conrad’s approach is a little more twangy and even shoegazerish at times, but the band is coming from the same place as the finest tunesmiths—boy gets girl, boy loses girl, and boy writes a great song, hoping to lure girl back. Does it work? Probably not, but at least we get a fine record out of the deal.

In the month of September a helped spread the word about 29 live shows around Kelowna. Think about that. 29 shows in 30 days, not too bad. Kelowna has gradually become a place where live music venues like the Blue Gator, The Grateful Fed, Minstrel Cafe, The Habitat, Kelowna Community Theatre, The Well. the Glenmore Hubb, etc.. have been encouraging live music!
Come out to support live music in Kelowna!
A big kudos to Miss T for continuing to book a diverse group of bands and solo artists to play at the Blue Gator. Many of the bands she’s bringing to town are from Alberta, Ontario, Halifax and everywhere in between. [i’m still waiting for some great Newfoundland bands like the Novaks or Mark Bragg to head out this way]. So more and more bands, artists management companies, and booking agents are remembering that Kelowna is a place to stop in between Calgary and Vancouver!
cheers,
Jason
