Jon-Rae Fletcher & Alphababy @ the Habitat – Friday, May 9th, 2008

tickets are $12!!

The son of a preacher, Jon-Rae grew up in Kelowna, British Columbia, where he sang in his church’s choir by day, and fell in love with the music of Kurt Cobain at night. Jon-Rae founded the original River band with a collective of Vancouver friends, but disbanded the group when he moved east to follow a girlfriend, whom he later married.

The River was reformed with like-minded Toronto musicians in 2003, and they have grown into somewhat of a cult band with an ever-expanding audience. Combining country, gospel, rock, and soul, Jon-Rae & The River have created a unique blend of music, sometimes complemented by an on-stage choir.

The Alphababy drill… Graham Jones plays the drums and occasionally sings. Brandon Scott plays the guitar, sings alot, and plays the harmonica. Jeffrey Innes plays the guitar, sings alot and used to play bass and piano in the band live, but still does on recordings sometimes. Adam Newton plays the bass and the guitar. Matthew Vatour plays keys and guitar.

Eileen Rothe. – Fri. April 25th at the Habitat

Rothe is making big waves in the independent music scene on the West Coast.

Dream Girl was a recording that started as a pilot project with Vancouver music producer Jeff Dawson (known for his work with Daniel Powter and Holly McNarland) and its initial success brought Rothe back in the studio to complete the project; since its release in 2007, Eileen has been gaining recognition and fans worldwide.

The single “Dream Girl” has reached #1 on Yahoo Music Canada’s Pop and Indie radio stations, where it continues to grace the Top Ten charts. Two songs from the album are also featured on the latest Bootlegger promotional disc Love, Life, & Jeans in outlets across Canada.

Come enjoy some drinks, food and great live music!
