These Three Cities – Mon. July 6th at Doc Willoughby’s

These Three Cities Set Out On Their 1st Cross Canada Tour

These Three Cities will be hitting the road for their first full Canadian tour in support of their most recent self-titled release.

On top of being featured as Artist of the Week on myspace.com, they have shared the stage with many bright up and coming artists such as Die Mannequin, Low Level Flight, Justin Nozuka, We Are The Take and Stereos.

Catch the band live as they play the first leg of their tour towards Western Canada. The tour will continue until the end of the year with shows in Ontario and continuing to the east coast.

“add another band to the raft of great talent coming out of the Toronto area. T3C started out as a three piece and have expanded out to a full five piece that will impress even the most discerning music aficionado.”

Said The Whale – July 11th at the Habitat

SAID THE WHALE
tour! treats! album teaser!

Vancouver indie darlings Said The Whale have their fins set on overdrive as they release their next single “The Magician (Camilo)”, prepare for a summer tour, and press a limited edition run of their 7” that features the single as well as three other tracks: “Strong Swimmers”, “Love is Art” and “Upset Her”.

After building a solid fanbase in Vancouver’s independent music scene Said The Whale have received a shout out from Perez Hilton, features on YouTube and MySpace Music for their video “This City’s A Mess”, landed some stellar slots at Junofest and Vfest, and opened for friends including Mother Mother and City and Colour.

“If The Killers and Badly Drawn Boy were to have a love child, it’d be Said The Whale. Remember when “alternative” music used to be a real trendy word? Well, that really is the best way to describe this band…Said The Whale makes delightfully quirky music. It’s infectious!” – Perez Hilton

Fans can expect their full length album ‘Islands Disappear’ this fall on October 13 via Upper Management Management Recording Co/EMI and produced by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, Mother Mother, Hannah Georgas) and Tom Deobrzanski (Hey Ocean, Lotus Child). In the meantime, check out the single, go see them play, and count your lucky stars if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a vinyl copy. Hull speed ahead!

“Just when you think cynicism has completely permeated the indie scene, a band pops up to make you optimistic again. Enter Said The Whale, a group of twentysomethings full of youthful energy unseen in this country since Sloan circa Twice Removed.” – EYE Weekly

Canada Day – Rah Rah at the Habitat

So I’m blogging about the upcoming Rah Rah show again… I mentioned last week that they were coming back to the Habitat for a headling show on July 1st. They’ll be joined by Sleepless Knights. There new album “Going Steady” is great! I’m listening to it right now actually.

Since making their out-of-town debut at Pop! Montreal in 2006, the buzz surrounding Rah Rah has been growing steadily. They were voted “Best Band in Regina” by a 2007 Prairie Dog’s Reader’s Poll, have played festivals across Canada, and released their first full-length album ‘Going Steady’ via Young Soul Records (Library Voices, Polymaths, National Frost).

“Very accomplished despite their youth, Rah Rah plays immense, poetic rock tunes…” – Montreal Gazette

The six piece features members of Sylvie, Geronimo, and the late Despistado. Since its release ‘Going Steady’ has received consistent air play on CBC Radio 3 (reaching #5 on the R3-30) and has charted on campus radio stations and in Exclaim! magazine for the last two months.

“There’s just something compelling about this band, whether it’s Burns’s earnest delivery (shades of a baritone Neil Young), the catchy tunes underpinned by rock solid musicianship, or the fact that one of their songs calls for a sound effect created by chewing candy into the microphone.” – ChartAttack

TORONTO – June 24, 2009 – SIRIUS Canada, the country’s leading satellite radio company, today announced the launch of its national SIRIUS Face the Music Tour. This Name That Tune style challenge will test Canadians’ music trivia knowledge at kiosks appearing at some of this summer’s hottest events as well as online, with the highest scorer winning an ultimate concert experience for two in New York or Los Angeles.

Kicking off with a media charity challenge today at the SIRIUS Satellite Radio Stage at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre, the SIRIUS Face the Music Tour will test Canadians’ knowledge of artists and song titles from a wide variety of music genres, from the 1960s to today. The tour will also highlight SIRIUS’ great entertainment value including sports, news, talk, entertainment and commercial-free music content. Additionally, Canadians can play along online at home at www.facethemusictour.com.

“Music lovers are often also music trivia buffs, and we love the idea of putting them to the test in this fun way,” said Janet Langille, Vice President, Marketing, SIRIUS Canada Inc. “The SIRIUS Face the Music Tour not only challenges Canadians’ musical knowledge, it also allows them to discover new artists and genres they might not be familiar with and gives them a chance to win amazing prizes. It’s also a great introduction to all the other great sports, news, talk and entertainment content available on SIRIUS.”

Those competing in the SIRIUS Face the Music Challenge, whether at a kiosk or online, will be faced with music-related questions on everything from 60s Pop Hits and 80s Hair Bands to Canadian Indie and 60s and 70s Country.

The SIRIUS Face the Music Tour will make stops at Ottawa’s Canada Day Celebrations, the Calgary Stampeders home opener on Canada Day, the Collingwood Elvis Festival, the Merrit Mountain Music Festival, the Edmonton Grand Prix, Whistler’s Mountain West Music Fest, and Live Nation Concerts among others. Please visit www.facethemusictour.com for more information.

The Return of Rah Rah to Kelowna!

You probably remember these guys when they played a show at The Habitat on Feb. 19th with Library Voices and Twin Crystals. They put on a great show!

“There’s no doubt that Rah Rah are Canadian. Their beyond catchy but blunt rock songs were dressed with keyboards and violins, and in a very Weakerthans-esque manner they brought their awkward sing-along inducing live performance to a crowded audience at the Boat that couldn’t help but clap along! It leads me to believe in the near future we’ll be hearing a lot more from these prairie dwellers.” – Exclaim
